When word got out that Patapon has been released in Japan and will be out on 26th February 2008 in the US, I was actually pretty clueless about it. All I know was that it’s created by the same people who did Loco Roco, it’s a 2D platformer and … that’s about it. Seriously, I knew nuts about the game until I tried the demo this morning. Now I understand why everyone has been so “fussy” about it (so to speak) heh.
Since I have admitted that I knew nuts about the game (and perhaps still do), I will just go through what I have experienced in the demo. For starters, you are the Great Patapon God(?) who will lead your tribe into doing things by whacking drums. Perhaps that’s not the best way to put it but heck, that’s what the game is all about. It is a rhythm-driven game with its own unique style.

Dig those tribe’s men!
The first 2 missions I went through taught me how to play the rhythm for moving and attacking. It is not as simple as just pressing the correct buttons in order to move or attack. You have to keep the beat going consistently to fire up your tribe men’s spirits or they will lose their confidence. There’s nothing worse than having your men charging in on the enemy at full force only to be slaughtered when you lose the rhythm.
In summary, give this demo a shot and see for yourself. As for me, I am more or less addicted to this game already. The music, the gameplay, and the art-style would be a refreshing breather from the current PSP lineups. Having played the demo, I couldn’t help wondering … imagine you can play this game with the drums from Rock Band!
Play-Asia is selling this game for US$24.90. If you haven’t pre-order your copy, you may do so by clicking here.
Now repeat after me: Pata-Pata-Pon~! Pata-Pata-Pon~!

I recently watch MGS4 gameplay demo that was debuted during E3 2007. In this demo you can see a lot of old school plus new stuff, such as the Octocamo that automatically changes the camo to fit the surroundings, the ability to play the entire game in first person view mode, play dead, control the tiny Metal Gear Mk II as well as new erm … “ways” to knock your enemies out cold.
