As mentioned in my previous post, me and my girlfriend have gotten ourselves a Nintendo Wii along with some games. After we got home, it was literally a “swinging” sensation from start until finish. It really does feel fresh playing from a different style compared to the good old gamepads.
Inside the box contained the following;
- The Wii Console
- The console adapter
- Wiimote + Nunchuk (batteries included)
- Instruction booklets along with Wiisports
- The bar sensor along with the stand
The bundle itself is enough to get you started without any additional purchases. But of course you would probably picked up a game or two to further test the functionality of the wiimote.
Wiimote & Nunchuk
When I first saw them, I was thinking that they look kinda small and fragile. But after getting my grip on them, they feel just right, not too big nor too small. The buttons on the top are easy to navigate and the trigger button (B) which is right below the Wiimote provides a gun-like style for shooting events / games. As for the nunchuk, the design makes it easy to handle and relaxing on the hand. No trigger button on the analog stick tho (referring to the L3 and R3 buttons on the playstation).
Wii Menu
Nothing much to say about it since it’s really easy to get around. Just point using the wiimote and press the A button to navigate through the different icons on screen. If you are lost, just refer to the manual (which I did cause I couldn’t find the icon to view my Wii code
).
Wiimote sensitivity
The room which the Wii is in now is actually pretty cramp with stuff so I can’t really fully utilize the space that is required for some games. Overall the sensor is very sensitive and reacts to every move I made except for a few times which I feel that the reaction was sloppy. I blame that on my surroundings. So if you are going to get a Wii, make sure you have sufficient space to fully enjoy it.
Conclusion
The Wii is a remarkable piece of gaming hardware. The usage of the wiimote & nunchuk to perform all (and more) the actions capable by the gamepad was something which I couldn’t imagine when I first heard of it. Now after having my personal hands-on on the wii, I understand that nothing is impossible. In conclusion I give the Nintendo Wii a 4.5 out of 5.

I agree, teh Nintendo Wii is a complete change from tradional gaming and other consoles. You know this is the case with so many after market products and wii accessories now available, such as wii boxing gloves, guns, sports accessories etc. I prefer the Xbox 360 personally, due to it’s next gen graphics and capabilities, as well as it being more of a serious gamers console. The Wii though is far better from a social point of view and is great for family getherings or parties. It’s a new reason to stay!
