Review Type : First Impression
It has been a long time since I played Twisted Metal series. I played 2, 3 and 4 previously before getting on with this version. I didn’t have the chance to play Black which was released on the Playstation 2 back in 2001 and I heard its the best among the series. Well it has been 6 years since the release of TM : Black so I’m not surprised that the game will be hard to find .. which in fact it is. I have been hunting high and low for it for the past 3 years perhaps?

Since I didn’t play Black, I don’t really know if there is any difference between that and Head On. Therefore my impression on this game will be based on TM2. Like most reviews have stated, if you played the previous series, you will find nothing new in this version. After playing through 4 stages, I find it very .. very true. The game still plays the same, you still get the same guys from before, (perhaps I missed out some new characters) you still get the same type of weapons and Calypso still grants you a “wish” once you manage to eliminate the competition. You also have the usual d-pad action to execute extra special attacks and you can blow up certain areas to activate new areas (I wonder if the Statue of Liberty is still around *cough*). Heck let just say if you played TM2 you can literally jump into this game without any problems. This version offers online gameplay too.

Graphical wise, the game plays smoothly with minimal slowdowns and it looks pretty okay. The landscape might looked a bit flat at times but I feel that gameplay is more of a concern here. When you are in the game, you will be too busy picking up weapons and blasting other cars to notice the environment around you. If only the music were as upbeating as the gameplay. It feels out of place at times.

Closing comment : For me, its worth getting the portable version because I missed out on TM : Black, but those who played Black might feel this version offers nothing new. I don’t really know but having a portable TM at the palm of your hand doesn’t seem that bad, does it?
